Definition
An HVAC equipment warranty is a manufacturer's written promise to replace defective parts, such as a compressor or heat exchanger, for a stated period. It usually covers parts only; labor to diagnose and install them is separate and comes from the installing contractor or an extended plan. Many manufacturers require product registration within a set window.
Also called: Parts warranty, Labor warranty, HVAC warranty
Why it matters to you.
A part covered by warranty can still mean a labor bill if it fails in a Kentucky cold snap and labor is not covered, so knowing which part of the warranty comes from whom matters before you need it. Keeping the invoice, model and serial numbers and maintenance records together makes a future claim simpler.
Practical guidance.
On every quote, ask for the manufacturer's parts term, who provides labor coverage and for how long, whether the equipment must be registered and by when, and who handles registration. Read the manufacturer's warranty document for any maintenance or installation requirements.
